The World Boxing Council will start a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in selected countries of the world where professional boxing is promoted.
From WBC President Jose Sulaiman:
“The World Boxing Council will start a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in selected countries of the world where professional boxing is promoted.
“I will propose this as a priority program to the members of the Board of Governors during the celebration of the WBC’s 43rd Annual World Convention to be held in Gibraltar (La Linea de la Concepcion, Cadiz, Spain), from October 2 to October 8.
“For many years, the WBC has supported rehabilitation programs for several boxers whose names have been kept in confidentiality to respect their names and dignity.
“It is very sad to see how many boxers, who had great careers and became sporting heroes of the world, end their lives in the paws of drugs and alcohol, which are the cancer of modern society. The WBC wants to do something about it."
