4MannyPacMoralesFight (14K) Post fight Pacquiao Vs Morales Mailbag: Part II

By Isaac Barrio - 3/22/2005

Revisit the Action. Round by Round: Pacquiao Vs Morales

Marko:

I am a filipino, of course i was thingking that manny will win the fight as other filipinos would do. manny changes his style, thats a big mistake i guest, definitely not a good night for manny. Charge it to experience Manny, better luck next time buddy. i salute eric! youre an animal! with brain!

Isaac Barrio:

It wasn't a case of changing styles. Manny tried to attack Morales but Morales had an answer for every move Manny made. As I suspected, Manila Ice never came through for Manny. However, I do think Manny's performance warrants a rematch. Manny displayed some heart and guts in this fight. Hold your head Manny. You are a true Warrior!!

Manny's fan:

Hey guys! Can you please shut up? Erik is a dirty fighter. He has this strategy to use his head to beat this greatest warrior with only one eye

Isaac Barrio:

Erik is a ring savvy fighter. He is a cut off the old block. Was he dirty? I don't think he was. Do I think he was smart? Most definitely. You want to see dirty? Check out some of Bernard Hopkins's fights. I hope you guys realize that Boxing expands beyond Manny Pacquiao. Become a fan of the sport, not just the man.

Jay laagan jr.:

Congrats to joe cortez. you did it again. i hope you will drop dead in the middle of the ring next time you officiate a fight of manny pacquiao.

Isaac Barrio:

I think Cortez did a good job. He let the fighters do their job, which is fighting.

Mold:

I'm just wondering. Why didn't the pacman stand his ground when morales came after him? he seemed to keep retreating. pacquiao had the stronger punch so he should have outslugged morales in close range. I thought their plan was to MAKE morales come forward attacking and THEN proceed to overpower him with manny's superior speed and power. But instead giving morales a slugfest manny just kept falling back from erik's charging offense. why is that?

Isaac Barrio:

Morales was the stronger fighter it this bout Manny's speed was effectively controlled by these hard rights and good body work. It wasn't Manny's night. Morales had all the answers and a well executed fight plan.

ALfonso Barreras:

I knew morrales would win, He just had to much experience, Plus Boxing is always the key, What I do want to see is Pac vs the new Barrera, or marquez

Isaac Barrio:

Morales performance adds more fuel to the notion that Barrera just had an off night against Pac. I would like to see Pac fight Barrera or Marquez. I do think that Pac would be the underdog in each of these fights.

Luis Cardenas:

First - I would like to say it was a great fight thanks to both fighters.

Second - I can see that many of the people who seen the fight do not really understand the sport. Morales came in with a strategy and he carried it out and if he wanted he could have kept Pacquiao outside but you can see in all his fights that he likes to mix it up and he showed it last night again. As for Pacquiao he is strong and courageous but he could not adapt in the fight and that is the same thing that happened against Marquez, he won a big round but after Marquez adapted he kept Pacquiao outside and peppered him with shot from outside and the Pacman did not adapt, he just kept charging and throwing flurries that did not really land. I would love to see Pacquiao on a rematch with Morales, Marquez or Barrera they would all be great fights. In Boxing or any sport when you loose you congradulate your opponent and you go out and train harder for the next meeting but true champions never make excuses!

Isaac Barrio:

1.I Agree. It was a great fight!!
2.I Agree again. Be a fan of the sport, not the man. Morales employed a great fight plan.

Rebel:

WELL ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT I AM FULL MEXICAN AND HAVE LOTS OF LOVE FOR MANNY PACQUIAO I WAS GOING FOR TERRIBLE CAUSE OF THE FACT HE'S A LOCAL NEIGHBOR FROM TJ TO SD AND HES MEX OF COURSE BUT I ALSO GRIEVED THE LOSS OF MANNY.. THE ONLY REASON I WANTED MANNY TO LOSE IS TO SHUT HIS FANS UP HALF OR MORE OF HIS FANS DONT EVEN KNOW THE SPORT AND JUST CUZ THEY SEEN HIM FIGHT LIKE 2-3 TIMES ALL OF A SUDDEN THEYRE FANS.. NO EXCUSES MORALES OUT CLASSED HIM AND MANY UNDER-ESIMATED ERIK... AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HARDLY WATCH BOXING THEY JUST JUMPED ON THE BAND WAGON.. WELL CONGRATS ERIK "EL TERRIBLE" MORALES I HAD HIM BY DECISION... DO U AGREE ABOUT SOME OF PAC FANS ISAAC?????

Isaac Barrio:

I agree. I hope some of these Manny fans become fans of the sport of boxing. Boxing is a great sport and there are a lot of fights to be made that can produce the same spectacular results.

Oscar:

Hey Isaac, How do see Erik Morales if he was to jump to Lightweight? He proved to me that he still has it. How would he do against the likes of Corrales, J L Castillo or the Diazs?

Isaac barrio:

I like Morales but that is a tough jump. I don't think Morales can beat Castillo or Corrales, in fact I think he gets KO'd for the first time. Morales has a shot against Julio Diaz and Juan Diaz but still it is a Pick Em type of fight.

owen santos:

Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales, they are real ring warriors, just what boxing needed. They both stood up and did their best. It was a fight that every boxing fan to remember. The fans were sure was not robbed. They deserve a applause. I call it a real boxing match. I'm a Filipino, I respect both fighters heart and courage. Coming from the asian region gave us Filipinos a difficult time to gain respect from the western countries. I hope you know that what an asian warrior is made of. Heart of Steel and Gentlemen of the sports.

Isaac Barrio:

I agree 100%. I just wish more of the "Mainstream" media cared. I don't recall seeing any report on ESPN. I'm sure they will mention something on Friday Night Fights but this fight warranted immediate coverage. My local paper had no write up on this fight, yet they a piece on Bernard Hopkins and Howard Eastman.

Akram:

Say if Morales had the cut out of that headbutt, do you think Morales can dominate the fight as he did? The Pacman survived 7 rounds of boxing with barely effective one eye and with the other eye constantly being hurt by the flow of blood? I am not taking anything from the victory of Morales but he only managed 2 point win from the one eyed Pacman!

Isaac Barrio:

Yes. Morales would have won the fight. Morales has been in the position of being bloodied and battered before. This is where Big Fight experience displayed itself. Pacquiao is going to have to get used to dealing with cuts and bruises, it is a part of boxing.

Erik Castro:

I'm a filipino fan of Manny. It was a great fight for both and no excuses. I just thought, will there be a rematch in the near future? And will the Morales camp allow Pacquiao camp to use Reyes gloves instead of winning gloves so that no more excuses if "Pacman" will be lost again. Also, will it be another blockbuster?

Isaac Barrio:

Yes. I think there will be a rematch. Talk around the Boxing underground is that a rematch can happen as early as September. Gloves dont matter, it is all mind games. Morales could allow the Reyes gloves if he wanted.

adiksayosy:

Kudos to Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao. I am a MP supporter, and just as I have predicted that if the fight goes the distance EM will win. This was a great fight. MP fought a gallant fight. The reason why MP lost the fight the fact that he let EM dictate the the tempo of the fight. I understand MP's strategy in the first couple of rounds, by boxing and not head-hunting. The way I looked at it he did'nt pressure EM too much, unlike his previous fights. During the second half of the fight MP should have shown more sense of urgency to put EM away because of the cut he sustained in the 5th round; with the lingering possibility of the fight being stoped because of the cut due to a punch instead of an accidental headbutt. MP should have done what Arce did in the fight with Hussein, where he pressed the issue and eventually ended the fight with a KO. I hope the both men would again fight in the near future. Congratulations to EM, and more power to PACMAN.

Isaac Barrio:

As Manny fights these top level fighters he will gain "Big Fight" experience. Cuts, broken noses, broken hands don't mean nothing when you're fighting at the highest of high levels. Manny will work through this and will gain knowledge from this loss.
