World-ranked featherweight Phillip Payne of St. Louis meets Cornelius Lock of Detroit in the 10-round main event on the nationally and internationally televised “Guilty Fight Night” card promoted by Guilty Boxing Friday, Aug. 19, at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
Payne, ranked No. 15 by the International Boxing Federation and No. 24 by the World Boxing Council and the former World Boxing Association North American Boxing Association super bantamweight champion, has the deceiving record of 17-14-1 with eight knockouts.
Lock has a record of 14-2-1 with nine knockouts.
Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are seen domestically on America One, Comcast Sports Chicago, DirecTV, Dish Network and The Urban Network; in Europe, Africa and middle eastern countries on Fox Sports International; in Europe and Africa on BEN Television; in the Caribbean on WCVI Super Station; and in Japan.
Guilty Boxing’s weekly cards are seen in 202 million households worldwide, making Guilty Productions one of the fastest-growing providers of boxing television programming in the world.
This is another in the ongoing series of “Guilty Fight Night” cards. The innovative Guilty Boxing series was launched during May of 2004 and has presented cards in Arizona, California, Connecticut and Mexico as well as Las Vegas.
The 34-year-old Payne is coming off a loss June 24 to Daniel Ponce de Leon for the vacant World Boxing Organization North American Boxing Organization super bantamweight championship.
Payne won the vacant NABA super bantamweight championship May 29, 2004, with a 10th-round knockout of Al Seeger.
The 26-year-old Lock, a southpaw, is coming off a win over Alex Baba for the vacant International Boxing Council International’s super bantamweight championship on a Guilty Boxing card Jan. 21, in Las Vegas.
Six-round bouts include: cruiserweight Olawale Afolabi of Los Angeles (9-1-3, 3 KOs) against Michael Simms of Sacramento, Calif., (17-3-1, 13 KOs); super lightweight Mario Ramos of Phoenix (13-1-1, 3 KOs) against Francisco Para of Tijuana, Mexico, (12-4, 10 KOs); super featherweight Juan Garcia of Phoenix (5-0, 2 KOs) against an opponent to be determined; and bantamweight Juan Mercedes of Tijuana (8-1, 6 KOs) against Ivan Rodriguez of Las Vegas
(6-2, 3 KOs).
Four- or six-round fights include: cruiserweight Aaron Williams of Las Vegas (3-0, 2 KOs) against an opponent to be determined and welterweight Dominic Chavez of Las Vegas (2-0, 0 KOs) against Alex Arzola of Van Nuys, Calif.,
(2-1, 0 KOs).
The seven-bout Guilty Boxing card starts at 7 p.m. (Pacific) with doors opening at 6.
Commentators for Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are “The Colonel” Bob Sheridan and Benny Ricardo. Sheridan, a Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, has worked almost 800 world championship bouts on six continents during a career that has spanned more than five decades. Ricardo, for 11 years a place kicker on four NFL teams, also is a veteran announcer and has covered the biggest events in the sports world, ranging from Super Bowls to World Cups.
