The Best Damn Boxing Mailbag Hosted by Hardcore Boxing's Isaac Barrio
Isaac Barrio - 7/26/2006
At last, the best damn boxing mailbag on the Internet has made its triumphant return. No boxing mailbag on the face on the planet offers up more truth then the best damn one. We don’t hold back any punches and we will tell it like it is.
We start off this weeks bag with a barrage of Manny Pacquiao and pound for pound questions.
Pacquiao should be # 1
Anthony Pepito
One simple reason Pacquiao should be number one on not only your list put everyone's as well opposition, who has Mayweather fought, he is just this era's Roy Jones jr., sooner or later he will get knocked out, exciting and fast buy he can only move up to so much weight and the boom knocked out, he ducks too many fights, I thought it was all about the money guess not $8 million to fight Margarito, man please, Pacquiao fight p4p harder opponents for chump change compared to Mayweather and still has millions of pay per view buy him and morales alone over 700,000 buys, nuff said! Peace
Buenos Dias my fellow Hardcore Boxing fan, do me a favor and take a chill pill. My list is not a slight at Manny, only a reaffirming truth that Floyd Mayweather is the most skillful boxer on the planet. As much as I would like to rank the Pac Man higher I cannot because Mayweather has done nothing but win. Not only has little Floyd won but he has beaten Castillo and Corrales. I understand your frustration and we all know Mayweather is avoiding Antonio Margarito like the plague. I only hope Manny continues his quest so one day I can justify ranking him over Mayweather.
”The Mexican Killer”
Julian
Why do you have the Pac Man as the Mexican killer would you say that about a fighter who beats black fighters maybe the African American killer?
Good question! And like some websites around I won’t avoid good questions because it deals with race. Plain and simple, African American killer doesn’t have the same ring as “Mexican Killer”. Mexicans and Filipinos have a growing boxing rivalry and so far it has been true that Pacquiao has been the “Mexican Killer”. Manny has disposed of the Great Mexican champions of recent time. I see nothing wrong with a little rivalry based on nationality. Hell, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans have had a heated rivalry going on for years. And by the way, if you didn’t know by now, I’m Mexican American and I see nothing wrong with the term “Mexican Killer”. If Morales, Barrera, and Marquez don’t like the term then they damn well better do something about it.
Manny adds a new category on lb4lb greatness list
Ed Sa
Manny Pacquiao adds another dimension. He's "Blood, sweat, TOIL and tears." This is especially so because of his having been born to a poor but humble family.
I agree! I fully respect were Manny has come from and what he has accomplished. Mayweather comes off as a spoiled punk because he is a spoiled punk. Mayweather was born in boxing royalty and given the silver gloves and yet he tears apart his family and disrespects the sport…I have no respect for that. However, Mayweather does have skill and is currently the lb4lb top fighter. No dislike can take that away and it isn’t right to exclude Mayweather off any list simply because he is an unlikable punk.
If you need boots you can borrow mine
Paul
This a piece of bullshit....hey Pacman is #1 p4p boxer of the world today!!!
Hey Paul, the Manny mania has seeped into your brain and has clouded your judgment. Manny is the most exciting fighter today but his set of skills does not surpass that of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. No one is faster then Floyd. No one has a better defense then Floyd. No one can outbox Floyd. Yes, there are more exciting fighters then Floyd but we don’t base the lb4lb list on popularity or who we like. If we based it on who we like then maxboxing would have Edwin Valero # 1 because they swing from his nuts.
The weight Gate won’t go away
Aldrin Madz
I disagree with Castillo even on the list...
Why? Castillo is the only man on the list that can argue he beat Mayweather.
The man is an incredible fighter. So what if he missed weight on two occasions. The fact is he didn’t belong fighting at that weight anymore. Castillo ,being the man that he is, tried to live up to his contract to fight Corrales…even though it was apparent that he could not make the weight. I’m sure there was pressure on from all sides for Castillo to NOT pull out of the fight prior to the weigh in. Castillo is to blame in the end because there is always someone that needs shoulder the blame…If Corrales really wants to fight Castillo then they can do it at the next weight class up. I highly doubt that Corrales wants that and he has made a big issue out of defending the belts. Even in a day in age when the “Defending” belts does not make for the best fights…so in the case of Corrales I would replace “Defending” with “Hiding” behind the belts.
Pacquiao should be on top!
Beverly Laurete
A lot of writers has already done the same judgment as I am. Although i respect yours, my best pound per pound actually is Pacquiao, the most exciting fighter today. He lives up to the expectation of everybody by listening to everybody's want he should face. He does not only face the best of today with grit and bravery, he also demolished them all(except ofcoarse of Morales I) But just the same, he doesnt ducked out anybody, never chooses lesser opponent just because he is a superstar. And thats maybe the very reason why i dont want Floyd to be on top because what Manny did, he never does. And just look at the opponent PBF faced in the last 3 years, compared to Pacmans. I hope i had my point here. Thanks.
Hello Beverly, thanks for writing in. I see your point and I hate to disagree with you. A lot of writers are putting Manny up top because they are sour grapes. No other reasons then a personal one to put any fighter above Floyd. I feel your pain! Floyd is hard to like but that does not take away from his skills. Roy Jones went through what Mayweather is now going through for years. Same old argument! That he never fights anyone. It is hard to praise an unlikable person but there is no legit reason not to rank Mayweather # 1.
More P4P list
Mar Velasquez Jr.
Marco Barrera should is my #6 instead of Castillo. Compare the 2, I believe Barrera is more skillful. And Margarito should be #8 instead of Corrales. Margarito is the most avoided fighter of all simply because this guy can beat anybody in the welterweight division.
Yes, it is true, Barrera WAS more skillful then Castillo at one point in time. But time has passed and things have adjusted themselves accordingly. At one time Roy Jones was atop of the list…but we do not still rank him #1 based on his previous years. I think Margarito is making his way back on the list. I do like his style and yes he is being avoided by Mayweather. It would be easy to drop Corrales off and add Margarito on…I don’t see a problem with that.
Amazing
Carl
Amazing…
Amazing as in you can’t believe the crap I spew or Amazing as in you have seen greatness. I think it is the latter and thank you for the compliment.
Kelly Pavlik belongs on T.V.
Ruben Gut
Yes i was reading about Kelly Pavlik and I have two questions where is this fight going to be and is it going too be on TV.
What’s up Ruben! Kelly Pavlik is fighting Bronco McKart on Thursday, 7-27-2006, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Unfortunately, I do not believe this fight is scheduled to be broadcast on network T.V.
Old School James Toney Style
Jessie Hobson
James Toney is a throwback fighter, what I mean he is a 80 fight 15 round real man who doesn't care about his opponents feelings before the fight and that’s how it is supposed to be. He is also my favorite fighter because he is a master boxer and a true warrior. Everybody on the UFC Mix Martial ART bullshit, but boxing is the oldest a best martial art ever.
I agree, James Toney is old school and I appreciate a fighter that can tell it like it is. With Bernard Hopkins retiring it pretty much leaves only James Toney representing the “Old School”. Boxing can’t be put in a pretty package because it is what it is. And James Toney damn well can’t be put in a pretty package because he is what he is. I would much rather hear James Toney boasting as opposed to the whining that many of today’s boxers do. God, I can’t stand a Paul Malignaggi, Luis Collazo, Zab Judah, or Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I’m still on the fence with the UFC. I like the UFC but I would take a good boxing match up over it any day of the week. I think the “Old” UFC was much better, too many rules has diluted today's sport. There is no way that Matt Hughes beats a Prime Royce Gracie if they fought by the old set of UFC rules. I think UFC has grown because of very clever marketing. Boxing needs some fresh blood in the game and I think with Oscar De La Hoya becoming a major player things will change for the good.
UFC vs Boxing
The Weid
UFC will continue to take market share and fan base away from boxing as long as corrupt promoters such as Don King, et al. continue to line their own pockets and reduce the sport to what it is today; a glorified form of professional wrestling.
I have to disagree. Boxing has as storied history and some fresh blood is coming onto the promotional ranks. I think the future of Boxing lies with Oscar De La Hoya and his brain trust of Bernard Hopkins and Sugar Shane Mosley. Boxing will never be WWE-F, whatever they call themselves nowadays. If anything, the UFC fad will slow, not fade, because viewers will realize that strikes and stand up fighting (Boxing) is much more entertaining then going to the ground and trying to submit someone.
Vitaly Klitschko vs. Lennox Lewis
Ron Canter
Is there anything that can get either one of these guys back into the ring including $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$????????????????????????
No. We will never see a rematch between the two. I don’t know about Klitschko but Lennox Lewis seems to be enjoying life.
Well there you have it, the return edition of The Best Damn Boxing Mailbag. I welcome all questions and would like to hear from Manny fans regarding possible fights with Valero, Corrales, The Three Amigos (Morales, Barrera, Marquez), and Floyd Mayweather Jr. I’m currently writing an article touching on each one of these potential match ups.
